The Rutgers Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (RAD) Collaboratory

Biography

Prof. Waheed U. Bajwa’s research focuses on advancing the fields of artificial intelligence/machine learning, signal processing, and statistics to tackle the challenges presented by both limited and vast datasets. His work is integral to transforming raw data into actionable insights, contributing significantly to the ongoing Information Revolution. Since joining Rutgers University in 2011, Prof. Bajwa has developed computationally efficient, robust, and theoretically sound algorithms that process and refine data in both “data drought” and “data deluge” scenarios. These advancements are crucial for enabling AI systems to handle diverse data environments, ranging from small, incomplete datasets to large-scale, complex systems. His research has broad applications, including healthcare, communications, and networked systems.

In 2023, Prof. Bajwa, along with Profs. Avram Holmes, Linden Parkes, and David Zald, received the Rutgers Office of the Vice Provost for Research’s ML/AI Pilot Seed Grant for their project “Enabling Precision Medicine in Psychiatry Through Advances in Machine Learning for Multimodal Neuroimaging Data.” This project applies cutting-edge machine learning techniques to neuroimaging data, advancing precision medicine in psychiatry. Prof. Bajwa’s work, grounded in his extensive background in electrical engineering, applied mathematics, and statistics, also has wide-reaching impacts on fields such as multiagent systems, the Internet of Things (IoT), edge computing, next-generation wireless systems, and high-energy and astroparticle physics, continually pushing the boundaries of data science and artificial intelligence.
