Apply Now for Hands-on Training in Artificial Intelligence/Deep Learning

The RAD Collaboratory is pleased to invite you to apply for a seat in four related Hands-on Artificial Intelligence/Deep Learning (AI/DL) Tutorials for Science and Engineering.

Instructors:

  • Dr. Zhao Zhang, Assistant Professor, School of Engineering – ECE
  • Dr. Stephen K. Burley, University Professor, School of Arts and Sciences – C&CB

Description of Training Program:
Four hands-on tutorials will help prepare Rutgers graduate students, postdocs, faculty, and RAD Collaboratory SURF undergraduate students for success in research utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Deep Learning (DL) tools in science and engineering. As part of the training program, participants will use the Texas Advanced Computer Center (TACC) Frontera supercomputer for online hands-on exercises that reinforce learning from short, informative lectures.

Tutorial Dates/Topics:
I. September 9 – Introduction to Deep Learning
II. September 16 – Introduction to PyTorch
III. September 30 – Distributed Neural Network Training
IV. October 14 – Large Language Models and their Applications in Science and Engineering

We will be using TACC Frontera RTX 5000 GPUs for all four tutorials. You must have a Frontera account to run the hands-on exercises. Participants who do not already have a TACC account must request one at https://tacc.utexas.edu/use-tacc/getting-started/. Getting approval and setting up the multi-factor authentication may take a few days.

Tutorials will be limited to 50 participants. Apply at: http://go.rutgers.edu/ai-dl-tutorials . Applications are due by Monday, September 1, 2025 at 5:00pm EDT.
