Burley\, University Professor\, School of Arts and Sciences – C&CB\n\nDescription:\nFour hands-on tutorials will help prepare Rutgers graduate students\, postdocs\, faculty\, and RAD Collaboratory SURF undergraduate students for success in research utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Deep Learning (DL) tools in science and engineering. As part of the training program\, participants will use the Texas Advanced Computer Center (TACC) Frontera supercomputer for online hands-on exercises that reinforce learning from short\, informative lectures.\n\nTutorial Dates/Topics:\n\nSeptember 9 – Introduction to Deep Learning ​\nSeptember 16 – Introduction to PyTorch ​\nSeptember 30 – Distributed Neural Network Training​\nOctober 14 – Large Language Models and their Applications in Science and Engineering\n\n\nRutgers graduate students\, postdocs\, faculty\, and ​RAD Collaboratory SURF undergraduate students are eligible to apply. He recently obtained his PhD in EECS at UC Berkeley\, where he was advised by Sergey Levine. His research spans the fields of machine learning and robotics\, with the goal of building autonomous robots that can combine large-scale learning with real-world deployment. Dhruv is a Microsoft Future Leader in Robotics & AI (2024)\, Berkeley Fellow\, and his research has been nominated for and won several Best Paper Awards at premier robotics conferences like RSS and ICRA. His work has also been featured in several media outlets\, including IEEE Spectrum\, TechXplore\, and ZDNet\, along with several international venues. \n\n\nAbstract\nGeneral-purpose robot policies hold immense promise\, yet they often struggle to generalize to novel scenarios\, particularly struggling with grounding language in the physical world. In this talk\, I will first propose a systematic taxonomy of robot generalization\, providing a framework for understanding and evaluating current state-of-the-art generalist policies. This taxonomy highlights key limitations and areas for improvement. I will then discuss a simple idea for improving the steerability of these policies by improving language grounding in robotic manipulation and navigation. Finally\, I will present our recent effort in applying these principles to scaling up generalist policy learning for dexterous manipulation.

Information on future offerings is forthcoming. \n  \n\nThe Rutgers Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (RAD) Collaboratory in partnership with the Rutgers Office of Statistical Consulting invite you to apply for the “Introduction to Basic Statistical Analysis for Biomedical Researchers” course. The RAD Collaboratory is a New Brunswick Chancellor Signature Initiative overseen by the Office of the Vice Provost for Research (OVPR) that fosters collaborative data science and artificial intelligence/machine learning research\, student programming\, and community engagement in partnership with related initiatives across Rutgers. \nThis one-credit summer Boot Camp course is designed specifically for researchers in the biological and biomedical sciences who are looking for a time-efficient\, practical introduction to core statistical methods commonly used in analyzing biological and biomedical data. The Boot Camp will focus on real-world problems that researchers frequently encounter — such as comparing treatment groups\, analyzing associations\, interpreting p-values and confidence intervals\, and handling non-normally distributed data. Topics to be covered will include essential tools like t-tests\, chi-squared tests\, non-parametric alternatives (e.g.\, Wilcoxon rank-sum and Kruskal-Wallis tests)\, basic regression models\, and power analysis\, all of which will be demonstrated through hands-on exercises using relevant biodata. The Boot Camp is ideal for those who may have had some prior exposure to statistics but want/need clearer guidance on applying the right methods to the right problems in their research. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of statistical analysis\, allowing them to avoid common errors and make more informed decisions when interpreting biodata\, facilitating higher-quality\, more-reproducible research and increased opportunities for publication in prestigious journals. \nRegistration is limited.
